Having recently purchased a period property, I spent weeks trying to find the right tradesmen to install a new flooring whilst fixing years and years of damp and timber problems in the subfloor. I had numerous flooring guys round who were only interested in laying new flooring on the existing frames, that was until I found Jonathan who from his first visit was already identifying the source of the moisture problems and providing solutions. After just a few weeks work, Jonathan has removed the existing timber subfloor, solved numerous leaks/water ingress at root cause, installed a brand new subfloor and porcelain tiling all on top of damp proofing solutions. Not only this, but Jonathan went above and beyond to build me a bespoke fitted unit in my lounge, lay a bespoke Minton tile hearth, fill damage to the walls, fit new skirting and give a fresh coat of paint throughout. I honestly cannot believe how fast Jonathan works and how attentive to detail his approach is. It’s been a real breath of fresh air finding Jonathan and I now cannot wait to move into a property I was previously starting to have nightmares about. Thank you so much Jonathan, can’t wait to have you back to complete some additional jobs for me. If anyone’s reading this and is in a similar position, do not hesitate to use his services!Posted on Lucy GrantTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I would recommend Jonathan for a carefully considered job on a period property. Jonathan recently repainted our sash windows, making repairs as he went and taking time to explain options. He made things as easy as possible - also sourcing a new glass unit for a cracked window. When Jonathan first visited, we took the opportunity to ask his advice on some damp on an external wall. He’s put time and effort into identifying the source of the issue, taking the first steps to making improvements to improve air flow in the cellar, and researching drainage experts to complete the next stage. Thanks!Posted on Sam DanceTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. It's only right that I put fingers to keyboard to write a review for the incredible recent renovation Jonathan has undertaken on our property. I can not speak highly enough of him and his work. If you're skim reading these reviews and aren't going to read the detail I'll say this. Do not hesitate to go with Jonathan. His unbelievable knowledge coupled with his craftmanship, work ethic and genuine care and openness makes him an absolute no brainer for anyone seeking work on their property aligned with his many capabilities. We'd faced an uphill task trying to find sometime to renovate the gable end on our Edwardian property. We required someone with a multi-faceted skill set as we wanted to keep the original features however the gable end required render and timber repair, rework and replacement. In addition this and a series of period window surrounds and sills required painting. We were often faced with the choice of "I can paint it as is" or "It needs ripping down and replacing with modern plastic." Not Jonathan though, he came round and spent time explaining what is would have been like originally and what he'd propose, all of which included keeping original features and giving it a new lease of life. From there he quoted, flexed with us on dates, sorted scaffolding and turned up when promised. He worked incredibly hard, barely pausing and the level of craftmanship was awe inspiring. As with any period property he faced unknowns and challenges along the way but was never phased and never failed to explain and work to overcome them. The end result after a weeks real hard graft is absolutely sensational and has totally transformed the exterior of our property. All was completed on time and on quote/budget despite those unknowns I discussed. If the work itself wasn't enough Jonathan himself was a pleasure to work with. His depth of knowledge is truly vast and he always took time to answer queries and explain if I wanted something explaining. A person of true pure craft and a lovely person to boot. Trusting someone you don't know to work on your home is one of the biggest leaps any home owner can take. I writing this review because other homeowners should not hesitate to take that leap with Jonathan.Posted on Sally RobertsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Jonathan Monk was a real find. He repaired my rotten windows with hard wood and painted the windows, front door, porch and iron gates beautifully. He spent time helping me choose paint colours and recommended the best paint for the job. He is a true master craftsman, with many skills in period property renovation and painting. I would be happy to commission Jonathan again and his work led to several other jobs on the street.Posted on Tiziana IacolinoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have been putting off getting my house decorated for a couple of years now. I wanted to inject some colour into my house, but felt it a bit overwhelming for me to try to think about what colours would work. I started with one room, but very quickly realised that I would be extremely happy to have Jonathan complete work across my entire house. Jonathan is so much more than a decorator. He is willing to spend time talking about colour preferences, and spending time getting the colours right for the room and for the customer. He’s hugely knowledgeable, very tidy, and his work is exceptionally neat. I am so glad I found Jonathan, I would definitely recommend him. If you are looking for a tradesperson who is professional, very knowledgeable, tidy and extremely neat, I would highly recommend Jonathan.Posted on Arslan RehmanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. "Jonathon is an exceptionally studious and knowledgeable worker, especially when it comes to period properties. He sanded and stained my wooden staircase, cleaned and sealed my Minton tiles, and completed everything to an incredibly high standard. Throughout the process, he was reliable and always willing to help. Having been through a full house renovation, I know how challenging it can be to find a trustworthy tradesman, and Jonathon is a rare find. We’ve already decided to hire him for more work next year!"Posted on Amanda MorrisTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Jonathan has recently completed the renovation of a Victorian tiled porch for us. He has done various works for us over recent years: internal and external painting with sash window renovation and masonry repairs, restoration of a Victorian tiled garden path, installation of a new Minton tiled hallway and carpentry repairs to mention but a few. He has always been a reliable and conscientious craftsman with a good understanding of the needs of older properties and good attention to detail. He is a great communicator and will discuss any issues along the way and come up with problem solving ideas. He gives a 5 star service and I can wholeheartedly recommend him.Posted on J WildTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I can highly recommend Jonathan. He worked on my Victorian era flat and he transformed it --- he did all the decorating, tiled hearths and floors, restored original floorboards to their former glory, installed stone steps, the list goes on! He really did go above and beyond, and it shows in the final product. Thanks Jonathan. Looking forward to working with you again on the next project. March 25th 2024, edit to add --- Jonathan came to work again for me during the first quarter of this year. Really love what this guy can do! Some other tradespeople had come to quote for sorting out some issues in my basement, but they never followed through. Jonathan, on the other hand, couldn't have been more helpful. He ended up fitting a new staircase into my cellar, taking care of things like damp proofing, which I'm sure a lot of other people wouldn't have even thought about. The cellar now has a trapdoor guarding the entranceway, courtesy of Jurraf Paint! And it didn't cost a ridiculous amount of money either, unlike some of the other quotes I had received ... Next problem he solved was sorting out how to get a floor fitted in my dining room with a particularly awkward sub-floor. Previous owners of my flat had installed a bitumen sub-floor. Not the nicest material to work with. But, Jonathan knew exactly what to do. The end result is a lovely parquet herringbone layout. I really can thoroughly recommend this guy. Yes, he is a specialist in period property painting and decorating, but really he can do so much more: he is multi-skilled in things like joinery, laying tiles, cutting stone, laying flooring. He has ideas on what colours will work in what rooms, what furniture will complement the colour schemes, etc. Plus, he knows a lot about maintenance, which is obviously an essential factor in owning a period property. I look forward to working with him again!Posted on MoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I contacted Jonathan about issues I was having with the house and possibly getting the exterior walls sealed to minimise the impact of water penetration from the brickwork. From the off Jonathan was clear that due to his existing commitments, he would not be able to do the works for some time, which I appreciated as it would not be a waste of anyone's time. But what I found was excellent from him was he was willing to offer advice on what could be the causes and remedial measures I could take to deal with the problem. He was able to identify one of the causes by simply looking at pictures of the house without even attending. This was great, as it was the same symptoms that someone else identified upon attendance. He offered genuine advice and how to go about it. He also offered to come and check in person as and when he had the possibility, and speak in person when he could. A I have found him to be a genuinely top tradesman, who knows his stuff, and found that he wants to help where he can. I have found the advise valuable in me going forward to get the works done, which may even not require me to get the exterior works I initially thought I would need. If I ever need a service that he offers, I have no hesitation in contacting Jonathan about doing the works. There is a reason he gives long time frames for taking on a job, it's because he is a top professional and in demand. Keep doing the good work, you are a life saver. I can’t comment on workmanship (as we didn’t get that far), however my experience with Jarraf paint was appalling. I contacted Simon about restoration of our Minton tile hallway, and initially the response was positive, he gave what seems to be helpful advice, and confirmed he’s be able to come take a look but managed our expectations that he was busy with other projects in the immediate future; all ok with us, not a time sensitive job. However, over the following weeks he became non committal about certain aspects, changing dates, and not being particularly straightforward. Eventually, we had a date where he was supposed to come to do a site inspection; the day before I checked in to make sure all was ok for this and didn’t get a response. As I’d taken the day off work to facilitate the meeting, I had to just go with it; followed up in the morning with another messaged, begging for confirmation and also asking for clarity as it seemed like he wasn’t interested in the work and if that was the case please could he just say so. eventually got a response saying he wasn’t coming and that, no he didn’t really as he ‘couldn’t find the motivation for a few days work’ and that his ‘time is extremely limited’. All totally understandable, but something that could have been said from the off before I wasted my time and annual leave on this company. If you aren’t able to offer him weeks of work, or are a residential customer (as opposed to a bigger business) I absolutely wouldn’t waste your time; just not interested, counter to what their (very good!) website might lead you to believe. No respect for other people’s time, and in my opinion a total lack of professionalism. I found the way my time was water to be rude and hurtful.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
