Craftsman Maintenance & Finishing Services

Repairs, installation, renovation and preservation

Jurraf is a period property craftsman, maintenance & finishing service, working throughout Derbyshire & Nottingham.

Our ethos is to determine how the property functions & an understanding of how the property has been maintained. This information allows Jurraf to consider the appropriate methods for future work

Damp & Water Ingress Reports

Having an ability to identify the root cause of current and historic water ingress in properties has been useful over the years.

‘Looking’ and ‘reading’ the signs of ingress and damp with continued research has led me to assume nothing and ‘read’ each house independently.

Renew or new tiled floors

Having helped many clients discover or repair existing original ‘Minton’/ Victorian/ Period tile floors. First. Wow! Congrats. All in tack? It will come up a treat!

Missing bits? Sub floor gone? Are there broken & cracked tiles?…Options exist.

Replace a lost floor or wish a period tiled floor could be possible? Options exist.

renovation, installation & paint

renovation

An enormous topic. Regarding renovation? This would include alterations and additions or a reimagining of a current space changed through design & décor.

installation

Installation of module flooring, skirting, coving, period tiles, bespoke furniture, wallpaper or paint.

My philosophy is, to try and work out what the client wants and deliver that vision through a client led approach whilst understanding the remit of budget & practicality. Out sourcing appropriate skills to maximise progress.

paint

Has become a hot topic in period home maintenance. Jurraf would like to suggest, that there seems little point in applying a breathable paint, to a none breathable surface. Lime plaster without modern paint applied to it? It would be excellent to use breathable paint

commission & bespoke

Commission & bespoke services may sound grand but in reality it is simply a platform to provide services that would be otherwise hard to find. An example, a small proportion of original skirting is missing. New floorboards need matching to originals. Finding period features such as doors & ironmongery. Resolving maintenance issues and creating ideas into reality

Working throughout the towns and villages of Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire

Jurraf works exclusively across the towns and villages of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, supporting homeowners who want to preserve the character of their Victorian, Edwardian and heritage properties. From Long Eaton, Beeston and Chilwell to West Bridgford, Ruddington, Castle Donington, Sawley, Draycott, Sandiacre, Stapleford, Borrowash and Duffield, each project is approached with the same level of care and respect for the building’s history.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you only work on Victorian and Edwardian homes?

No — it’s simply a personal preference. Around 95% of the work I do is on period properties such as Victorian and Edwardian homes, but I’m happy to help with other types of houses too.

Can you identify the cause of damp in a period property?

Yes. We carry out independent damp assessments to identify the true cause of moisture issues. We focus on breathable solutions rather than modern, unsuitable treatments.

Do you use traditional materials like lime plaster?

Absolutely. We use lime plaster, breathable paints, and traditional repair methods wherever appropriate to ensure the building can function as intended.

Can you repair original features?

Yes — we repair or source period‑appropriate skirting, flooring, tiles, timber, and other original features to maintain the character of your home.

Do you offer advice before starting work?

Yes. We provide clear guidance, practical solutions, and a client‑led approach to help you understand the best options for your property.
